HARD TO BE FIRST
It's hard to be first at anything these days, but in October
this year Edinburgh Park Stud pulled it off when proprietor Ian
Smith announced his 'Guarantee For Life' policy... a $1000
buy-back guarantee on any horse that carries his IKS brand. "We
have made a socially conscious decision that will protect the
horses we bring into the world," he told the 2020 Magic Millions
Preview magazine.
Edinburgh Park will send 14 yearlings
to the Gold Coast this week, and you can read about them, and
Smith's policy on welfare, right here...

CHANGE OF MAGIC PLANS FOR RUBICK'S ALBURQ
Scoring a long overdue win at Flemington on Saturday was promising Rubick three year-old Alburq, a $260,000 Magic Millions purchase for Paul Moroney Bloodstock from the draft of Edinburgh Park, who will offer his half-brother by Vancouver at MM 2020.
A good second when resuming from a spell behind quality
Rubick filly Rubisaki last month at Moonee Valley, the Mike
Moroney trained Alburq atoned from that loss with a determined
short half head win in the 1200 metre Benchmark 70 event.
Placed five times from his previous seven starts, Alburq has
won over $160,000 in prizemoney, but plans for his next start
have now changed following this breakthrough victory.
"He
was a pretty good mannered colt, probably just a little bit on
his toes and he got pretty heavy so we gelded him and it's
really relaxed him down and he's going to make a really nice
horse," Mike Moroney said.
"We've got him in the Magic
Millions three-year-old race as well as the maiden but he's not
a maiden anymore so he won't be going for that.
"We were
almost going to sit on it and trial him up there (Queensland)
and go into it (Magic Millions Maiden).
"We'll certainly
give it a bit of thought whether we still take him up there for
the 1400m or whether we stay here.”
Either way, Alburq
has a good measure of ability and with a win under his belt will
take good confidence from this outing going forward.

Bred and sold by Ian Smith of Edinburgh Park, stakes-placed
Alburq is the fourth winner from four foals to race from
winning Dehere (USA) mare Euro Chic, who is closely related to
Group I winner Bollinger and claims blue hen Eau D'etoile as her
third dam.
Edinburgh Park will present the current
yearling from Euro Chic, a colt by Vancouver, as
Lot 283 and he is pictured below.

EDINBURGH PARK STUD OFFERS LIFETIME COMMITMENT TO THEIR HORSES
Well-known and likable
NSW Breeder Ian Smith
is the owner of boutique thoroughbred nursery
Edinburgh Park.
In response to the recent biased negative press coverage by the
ABC into horse welfare, Ian has announced all horses carrying
his industry renowned
IKS brand
can always be returned to their place of birth upon racetrack
retirement.
Ian Smith owner of Edinburgh Park is offering a lifetime
commitment to his horses
Ian Smith stated,
"When I saw the ABC programme, I chose to show immediate
leadership, by ensuring that no horse carrying Edinburgh's IKS
brand should end up at an abattoir."
"Someone needed to step up and we're a well-known stud in
Australia and we care about our horses."
Edinburgh Park have a first-class reputation for producing
top-quality racehorses including world champion sprinter Silent
Witness, Stakes-Winners such as Bull Point, Amovatio, Sister
Madly, Dances on Waves and this season’s two-year-old
stakes-winner Tanker.
The IKS brand is well recognised at yearling sales around the
country, with their boutique drafts always highly prized.
Ian Smith has positively implemented a
“price
guarantee buy-back”
upon every Edinburgh Park-branded horse, ruling out any
possibility their horses being denied a caring home upon their
racing career retirement.
Ian stated:
"Any horse that is carrying our brand, we price guarantee
$1000."
"It's
an initiative that I thought long and hard about and I wanted to
do something for the longevity of not just my business, but also
our industry as a whole.
"The
welfare of the horse matters most and that's why Edinburgh Park
has been so successful - because the horse comes first, and
always has."
With the high quality of Ian's broodmare band and the excellent
matings he chooses for each mare, Ian's fillies are
99.9%
assured of having a career as a
commercial broodmare
upon racetrack retirement.
As for their colts, it's a commercial fact that a large majority
will have
zero
commercial value upon retirement. It can be hard to find a home
for retired male horses as there is only a limited number that
can be gifted away for careers as
pleasure ponies, pony club horses or polo ponies.
Therefore, Edinburgh Park offering to buy-back all their bred
horses for
$1000,
that figure is to safely offset the cost of any float fee of any
horse to their property and ensures a happy post-racetrack
lifestyle at the magnificent property that is Edinburgh Park.
Dynamic Syndications have purchased horses from Ian Smith's
Edinburgh Park previously
and with the introduction of the guaranteed re-homing of horses,
it will certainly encourage us to look harder at their yearlings
with the view of buying more horses from Edinburgh Park, because
we are safe in the knowledge that they are guaranteed a
high-class, caring lifestyle in retirement.
It's also a feel-good position for our Dynamic Ownership Teams,
because they are safe in the knowledge their horse, should it be
necessary, will be professionally cared for without ongoing
financial burden.
IAN
SMITH at the sales
Dynamic Syndications congratulate Ian Smith / Edinburgh Park on
this excellent initiative.
Dynamic Syndications
have raced the
Edinburgh Park bred mare LAMMA HILTON

and

LAMMA
HILTON won 6 races - she was bred by Ian Smith at Edingburgh
Park Stud.
Whilst in 2019, we purchased the magnificent
2yo colt BAXTER (by Scissor Kick ex Miss Bax)
and we are now delighted to know he is
guaranteed a home
post-racing should we require to access Ian's offer.

EDINBURGH PARK OFFER LIFETIME COMMITMENT
Well known NSW breeder Ian Smith of Edinburgh Park has moved swiftly in response to last week's shocking ABC documentary The Final Race, announcing all horses that carry his brand can always come home.
"When I saw the show I was affected and I wanted to show
leadership, ensuring that no horse carrying Edinburgh's IKS
brand will ever end up at an abattoir or knackery," Smith said.
"Someone needed to step up and we're a well-known stud in
Australia and we care about our horses."

Smith has implemented a price
guarantee on any Edinburgh Park-bred horses, ruling out their
horses being purchased for slaughter.
"Any horse that is
carrying our brand, we price guarantee $1000 which rules out a
knackery or any abattoir purchasing a horse bred by Edinburgh
Park," Smith said.
"It's an initiative that I thought

Smith called on others in the

HORSERACING INDUSTRY REACTS TO 7.30'S STORY
The horseracing industry is still reeling from 7.30's revelations last week about the slaughter and abuse of thoroughbreds once their careers are over.
One horse lover who saw 7.30's story and was appalled was Ian Smith. He's the owner and manager of the Edinburgh Park Thoroughbred Stud in NSW.

EDINBURGH PARK BRED AND SOLD WINNER
Ian Smith of Edinburgh Park was making news earlier this week for his stance on thoroughbred welfare (read about it here), but one of his horses carrying the IKS brand that won't be returning home any time soon is talented sprinter Chicago Cub, who won his third race at Geelong on Wednesday.
Trained by Mike Moroney, the four year old Zoustar gelding
scored a half length win in the 1200 metre Benchmark 70 event as
favourite.br>
A $260,000 Magic Millions purchase for Paul
Moroney Bloodstock from the Edinburg Park draft, Chicago Cub has
been super consistent for his owners with three wins and three
placings from seven starts with earnings approaching $80,000.
BBred and sold by Edinburgh Park, Chicago Cub is a
half-brother to stakes-winner Assimilate and is one of three
winners from stakes-winning Commands mare Jester's Girl, who
sadly died last month after delivering a colt by Written Tycoon.

EDINBURGH PARK GUARANTEES HORSES FOR LIFE
As Australian racing confronts the fraught question of how to stop retired racehorses from ending up in abattoirs and knackeries, one outraged breeder has taken matters into his own hands.
Ian Smith, the owner of Edinburgh Park Stud, says that if anyone owns one of his horses and can no longer keep it, he'll pay $1000 to take it back so it won't share the fate of those animals graphically featured in last week's ABC 7.30 program.
He says although industry-wide solutions need to come from racing authorities and government, he can't with good conscience wait for that to happen.
"I am not going to sit back to wait for a committee to form or a sub-committee to decide what they should do when I can do something about our horses now," Smith told The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald.

GUARANTEES HORSES FOR LIFE
In the wake of the ABC's The Final Race program that aired on Thursday night, the racing industry has responded with strong condemnation of the horrifying scenes depicting thoroughbreds being inhumanely treated at abattoirs across Queensland and New South Wales.
One stud, New South Wales' Edinburgh Park, has made the ultimate commitment to guarantee that no horse they breed will ever end up at a knackery or abattoir.
Edinburgh Park's Ian Smith was distraught by the scenes in The Final Race and was immediately compelled to act.
"When I saw the show I was affected and I wanted to show leadership, ensuring that no horse carrying Edinburgh's IKS brand will ever end up at an abattoir or knackery," Smith said.
"Someone needed to step up and we're a well-known stud in Australia and we care about our horses."
Smith has immediately implemented a price guarantee on any Edinburgh Park-bred horses, ruling out their horses being purchased for slaughter.
"Any horse that is carrying our brand, we price guarantee $1000 which rules out a knackery or any abattoir purchasing a horse bred by Edinburgh Park.
"It's an initiative that I thought long and hard about, and I wanted to do something for the longevity of not just my business, but the industry as a whole.
"The welfare of the horse matters most and that's why Edinburgh Park has been so successful - because the horse comes first, and always has."
Smith called on others in the industry to take action to ensure no horse 'goes up the chute' at an abattoir or knackery.
"I think it's important that everyone takes responsibility and not just leave it up to a small few to sort out," he said.
"I've been doing this for 30 years now and if I can do something to help, I want to do it now."
Asked if we could reach a point where no horses end up suffering the grisly fate depicted on The Final Race, Smith suggested the state racing bodies need to work with Racing Australia to have a presence at every abattoir or knackery across Australia.
"Racing Australia could employ someone to work at each of these knackeries and abattoirs - I think there's between 45 and 50 - across Australia to make sure that no thoroughbred goes up that chute," Smith said.

TANKER WINS DEBUTANT STAKES
Pride Of Dubai sired his first Australian winner at the track of his greatest success when Tanker swept past his rivals to win Saturday's $175,000 Listed Inglis Debutant Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield.
Pride Of Dubai, the 2015 Blue Diamond Stakes winner, had his first Australian runners with Tanker and also Bella Nipotina.
Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace with Ben Allen in the saddle, Tanker ($7.50) settled sixth in the eight-horse field, which saw Pounce ($4.20 favourite) work overtime to find the lead from the second widest barrier.
Pounce quickly came under pressure upon straightening with Tanker producing a perfectly timed run down the centre of the straight to register a comfortable 2.25-length victory ahead of Euphoric Summer ($5).
"It's great for Pride Of Dubai to kick off like that," Maher said, with Pride Of Dubai also having sired an early season winner in New Zealand.
"You could see even when Ben (Allen) went for him into the straight that he wobbled around a little bit. "
"He'll improve so much from today, and he ended up winning pretty easily - he's got a bright future."
Allen described Tanker as 'green' and 'raw' following his debut win.
"I think the owners have one that they'll have a fair bit of fun with," Allen said.
"He was a little bit worked up in the yard - it's a big day out for them. Their first start in town on a big day like this, they're all a bit green and raw. "
"It's hard to tell how they'll go until they have those first few starts. It's good the way he put a nice field like that away."
David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig were attempting to win the race for the fourth=consecutive season after prevailing with Wait For No One (2016), Qafila (2017) and Champagne Boom (2018).
However, the Lindsay Park Racing representatives Queen Of Rocks and Bella Nipotina finished third and fourth respectively, with the latter experiencing no luck gaining clear running in the straight.
Bella Nipotina could seek redemption in the $500,000 Inglis Banner (1000m) at The Valley on October 26.

NEW MILLIONS COULD KEEP TANKER AWAY FROM MAGIC
Ciaron Maher could change plans for quality two-year-old Tanker if he delivers for punters in the Golden Gift at Rosehill on Saturday.
The Debutant Stakes winner has been made a $3.40 favourite for the $1 million early-season juvenile affair and is part of trio of runners for the Maher and David Eustace yard.
The Magic Millions purchase might not head to the Gold Coast if he wins on Saturday as it would qualify him for the Blue Diamond and Golden Slipper.
"With your best colts, you are always looking at the Golden Slipper and working back. If he was to win, you would know you are in the Slipper, so we would plan the best way to get there," Maher said. "That would probably mean break. It is a big prize for the winner in the Golden Gift."
Tanker showed a change a gear in the Debutant Stakes after cruising in behind the leaders, and the margin of 2 1/2 lengths could have been much more.
It was a professional display that was a building block for the future. Ben Allen has followed Tanker to Sydney in a sign that the Pride Of Dubai colt is fairly handy.
“It was a good start for a horse we syndicated to clients, and it's exciting for them to be running in a million-dollar race at his second start," Maher said.
"He is up with our best colts at the moment. He won at Caulfield so impressively, but he has continued to step up since.
"He was good in a trial in Sydney, and he has certainly come on since he has been up there.
"I'm confident he can run well but, with two-year-olds, it can be a bit of a guessing game. The thing he has in his favour is that he has done it already and seems to be better for that run."
Tanker holds his spot at the top of betting but could be challenged by Peter and Paul Snowden's first starter Blaze A Trail if the flow of early money continues. The son of Criterion has been $6 to $4.60 at Beteasy.
While Tanker delivered, Anders didn't live up to Maher expectations on debut, when well fancied and well beaten in the Kirkham Plate two weeks ago. He started $2.70 at Randwick and is a $19 chance for the Golden Gift.
Maher has reached for the blinkers for $670,000 Magic Millions purchase, which is eligible for the ladies bonus on the Gold Coast in an attempt get him back on track.
Anders led and compounded to run fourth in the Kirkham but Maher has seen enough talent in him from his trails.
"I expected more from him. You walk away disappointed and just need to try something to get him to focus,”"Maher said.
“He has drawn well and I expect improvement, but you want to see them do it before being confident.”
Cellsabeel completes the team for Maher, who is concerned about the wide draw with him.
"He has shown us good potential at home but it is tough when you draw the outside in a big field on debut," Maher said.
