MORE THAN READY STIKES AGAIN

After striking early with the Mick Price-trained Al Aneed in the Listed Gothic Stakes at Caulfield, More Than Ready (USA) struck again with another first time stakes-winner when Better Than Ready shattered the track record in the Listed Brian Crowley Stakes at Randwick.
Trained at Eagle Farm by Kelly Schweida, Better Than Ready stormed home to defeat Jolie Bay by a neck with Brave Soul a length back in third. He ran the 1200 metres in 1 minute 08.19 seconds, shaving 0.13 seconds off Northern Meteor's record.
"There was a hot speed today and he was off the bit a fair way out," winning trainer Kelly Schweida told TVN.
"He was nice and strong at the end."
"The (Group I) Coolmore (Stud Stakes) is in the back of our mind but we'll see how he gets through this race," he said.
Bred by Ian Smith, Better Than Ready(pictured as a yearling) was sold as a weanling at the 2010 Magic Millions National Sale where Blue Sky Thoroughbreds secured the colt for $120,000. He made $20,000 more when reoffered at the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Newgate Farm.
He is the first foal of the 5-time Sydeny winner Sally's World (Agnes World) a half-sister to dual Group 3 winner Publishing and Listed stakes winer Miss Mooney Mooney.
Edinburgh Park sold Sally's World to Patinack Farm for $180,000 at the 2010 Easter Broodmare Sale. She was carrying a Northern Meteor filly at the time and she has subsequently produced a yearling filly by Husson (ARG) and was bred back to Onemorenomore last year.
With two new stakes-winners More Than Ready moves his total to 107. The son of Southern Halo is covering his 12th book of mares at Vinery Stud at a fee of $121,000

HOYLONNY SALUTES AGAIN FOR JIMMY
Jim Cassidy was at his champion best when he drove Hoylonny along the rails on the turn and ran away with the easiest victories for this much improved 4yo Lonhro entire.
Carrrying 56.5kg from barrier 3 the Chris Waller trained horse looks like he has turned the corner and hopefully a stakes win is not far away.

BETTER THAN READY ON THE CHARGE
Better Than Ready has charged to victory in the Darley Australia Handicap (1110m) to begin another Doomben double for the Kelly Schweida stable at the Labour Day public holiday meeting.
Schweida prepared a double at the city venue on September 15 before Better Than Ready continued the stable’s success with his exciting win in his $50,000 assignment.
Ric McMahon had little option other than taking Better Than Ready to the back of the field after the colt drew barrier nine in the 10-horse field while the leaders set a fair speed early before slackening the tempo midrace.
McMahon pushed Better Than Ready into clear running at the 300 metres before the three-year-old unleashed a terrific sprint to swamp the leaders to post what turned out to be an easy win.
"In the first 100 metres when he was back last with 59 kilograms on his back I was a bit worried but he showed his class.
"I think the decision to take the visor off and put a cross-over noseband on him also helped because it kept his mouth shut and he settled a lot better.
"He still does a lot wrong. He can be a real knucklehead at times but the penny dropped today."
The win was Better Than Ready’s third win from five starts and propelled his earnings to $105,000. Congratulations to the colt’s owners - Goldstar Thoroughbreds (Mgr: D C Hayes), J D Maclean, S Duselis, R J Zuttion, C R Frampton, D P Tynan, B P Tobin, A Salpietro & M A Tobin

VALUABLE BLACK TYPE WIN FOR MISS MARX
Courtesy of Tara Madgwick - Sunday, 30 September 2012
Rejuvenated Anabaa (USA) mare Miss Marx might have been bought as a broodmare prospect by Edinburgh Park Stud and partners earlier this year, but she showed there is still plenty of good racing in her when flashing home late to snatch a narrow win in the Listed MRC Testa Rossa Stakes at Caulfield on Sunday.
Transferred to astute Warwick Farm conditioner David Vandyke by her new owners, Miss Marx chased home champion mare More Joyous for a good second last start in the Listed ATC Sheraco Stakes, so was always going to find this assignment a touch easier.
Ridden quietly by Damien Oliver from barrier 13, Miss Marx settled back in the field and despite travelling wide was able to finish off with a late surge to run down rank outsider McClintock and win the 1200 metre sprint by half a neck.
This is the first Black Type win for Miss Marx, who has the overall record of four wins and seven placings from 17 starts with prizemoney just shy of $300,000.
Miss Marx (pictured Racepix Vic) was originally purchased for $150,000 from the Baerami Thoroughbreds draft at the 2009 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and did her early racing for the John O'Shea stable.
On-sold at the 2012 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for $110,000, Miss Marx is now looking like a great purchase for Ian Smith's Edinburgh Park Stud, which is best known for having bred the great champion Silent Witness as well as stakes-winners such as Sister Madly, Dances on Waves and even last Saturday's smart Rosehill winner Hoylonny.
By ill-fated shuttle sire Anabaa, who was one of the few shuttlers to achieve major success in both hemispheres, Miss Marx is one of two winners from the stakes-winning Bite the Bullet (USA) mare Daijobo, a full sister to another stakes-winner in Let's Compromise.

BETTER THAN READY RETURNS IN STYLE
Exciting prospect Better Than Ready pushed his claims for a trip to either the Sydney or Melbourne spring carnivals with his stylish win in Saturday’s Ormiston College Redback Handicap (1110m) at Doomben.
Better Than Ready took his record to two wins from three starts with his effort to win the $50,000 event with just one trial under his belt but trainer Kelly Schweida said the son of More Than Ready would need to repeat the effort for him to consider a southern campaign for the colt.
"It was a good win but I want to see him put two wins together like that to see if he's good enough for a trip south," Schweida said. "He's nominated for the Caulfield Guineas but he won't be starting in that.
"There's plenty of races around for him that look suitable in Sydney or Melbourne in the spring but we'll have to wait and see how he runs next in two weeks’ time.”
Schweida sent Better Than Ready to the spelling paddock after his fine fourth in the Listed Hampden Stakes (1200m) at Doomben in May but the three-year-old showed the benefit of the break in his return to racing.
Jockey Ric McMahon gave Better Than Ready time to balance in the first half of the race before putting his mount in the race at the 400 metres. McMahon was kind to Better Than Ready in the straight but he still proved too strong for his opposition.
"I put the blinkers on him to get him to concentrate more after he was a bit tardy in the barriers last campaign," Schweida said. "He got back a bit further back than I expected today but he had them covered at the 100 metres.
"It was only his first run back from a spell and he was still a bit soft. You don’t want them wound up fully when they have a long campaign ahead of them.
"Although he wasn't at his peak, the pleasing part was his time which was only fractionally outside the class record."
Schweida paid $150,000 for Better Than Ready at the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney. Better Than Ready’s impressive win took his prizemoney tally to $68,000 with plenty more to come this time in.
Congratulations to Better Than Ready’s owners - Goldstar Thoroughbreds, Mr J D Maclean, Mr S Duselis, Mr R J Zuttion, Mr C R Frampton, Mr D P Tynan, Mr B P Tobin, Mr A Salpietro, Mr M A Tobin.

FASTNET COLT ROCKS MAGIC MILLIONS SALE
A cracking colt by red hot Coolmore Stud sire Fastnet Rock stole the show during a great day's selling at today's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
After a few tense minutes it was renowned bloodstock agents James Bester and Demi O'Byrne who held the bid when auctioneer Steve Davis dropped his gavel at $960,000.
Competition for the colt, catalogued as lot 265, was strong with no fewer than three parties bidding $900,000 or more.
O'Byrne has already tasted great success with progeny of their red hot young stallion - having purchased Australia's best filly Atlantic Jewel for $320,000 from the 2010 auction.
Coolmore's Tom Magnier said he was delighted to be able to stunning colt, offered at the auction by Ian Smith's Edinburgh Park.
"He is on fire at the moment," Magnier said of Fastnet Rock.
"James (Bester) and Demi (O'Byrne) absolutely loved the horse and they were raving about him all week."
"We are really trying to get the good Fastnet Rock colts. He has plenty of quality and we really wanted to buy him."
"We knew there were plenty of people interested in him and we would have to do a bit of fighting to get him," Magnier added.
The colt is from the lightly raced but exceptionally related Bite the Bullet mare Rose of Cimmaron.
Another highlight of the session was the sale of Strawberry Hill Stud's More Than Ready filly from Sugar Babe for $600,000.
Gai Waterhouse and James Harron outlasted the Segenhoe Stud team to secure the star filly.
Some 11 yearlings sold for prices of $350,000 or more during today's session where the yearlings averaged over $140,000.
Today's healthy figures helped boost the sale gross to over $33.5 million for 262 lots sold at an average price of $127,977.
The current average price is up marginally on the figure after two sessions last year.
The clearance rate of 75 per cent yesterday has now soared to over 81 per cent for the sale.
"We couldn't be much happier with today's proceedings," Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said this evening.
"Competition was strong throughout the day and it was great to see some outstanding results for vendors from around the country."
"To see the clearance rate at 81 per cent for the sale is terrific considering at the same stage of the sale last year we were hovering around 77 per cent."
"We still have some terrific prospects to go under the hammer tomorrow and Saturday night so we're hoping the good momentum will continue."
A number of vendors reported great success stories today - with vendors from many states in the thick of the action.
Queensland's Rosari Farm were delighted when their lovely Fastnet Rock filly from Quack was purchased by Bahen Bloodstock and Malua Racing for $460,000.
Widden Stud's Antony Thompson was all smiles when that stud's Sebring half brother to Absolut Glam sold to Gai Waterhouse and James Harron for $360,000.
And South Australia's Mill Park was celebrating after three strong sales - their Choisir half sister to Captain Sonador ($350,000 to Belmont Bloodstock Agency), the Bernardini-Rock on Madonna colt ($360,000 to Hong Kong Jockey Club) and the New Approach-Sizzie 'em colt ($250,000 to Darley Australia).
The third session of the sale will be held from 11am (Qld time) tomorrow.
